Advanced Inventory
Advanced inventory settings let you control minimum purchase quantities, offer quantity-based pricing, sell by weight or unit, and pool stock across related variants. These settings live on the product form under the Inventory and Pricing sections.
Minimum Order Quantity
A minimum order quantity (MOQ) sets the fewest units a customer can add to a single cart line. If a customer tries to add fewer units than the MOQ, checkout is blocked with a prompt to increase the quantity.
- Where to set it: product form → Inventory section → Minimum Order Quantity.
- Leave blank for no minimum — customers can order any quantity from one upward.
- MOQ applies per line item, not per order total.
- Use it for wholesale products, bulk commodities, or any product that is not economical to sell in small quantities.
Tiered / Slab Pricing
Slab pricing gives customers a lower unit price when they buy more. Each slab defines a minimum quantity and the unit price that applies from that quantity onward. The price automatically drops as the customer's quantity crosses each threshold.
- Where to set it: product form → Pricing section → Add Pricing Tier.
- Add as many tiers as needed. Each tier needs a minimum quantity and the unit price for that tier.
- The highest tier with a
min_qtythat the customer's quantity meets is used. For example, three tiers at qty 1 (₹100), qty 10 (₹90), and qty 50 (₹80) means a customer buying 15 units pays ₹90 each. - The base product price acts as the starting tier (qty 1 and above). Slabs only need to cover the thresholds where the price changes.
- Slab pricing is not available for service products.
- When tiered pricing is set, the product page shows the range from the highest-tier price to the base price (for example, ₹80 – ₹100).
Unit of Measure
Unit of measure (UoM) lets you sell weight-based or volume-based products where each unit sold deducts a fractional or specific amount from stock rather than a whole count.
- Sale unit: the unit shown to the customer — Each, Kilogram, Gram, Litre, Millilitre, or Dozen.
- UoM factor: how much of the base stock pool one unit of sale consumes. For example, a product sold as a 350g packet where the pool is tracked in kilograms would have a UoM factor of 0.35 — buying one packet deducts 0.35 kg from the pool.
- Leave the UoM factor at 1.0 for all standard per-unit products (clothing, electronics, bottles). Only adjust it for weight or volume products.
- Weight tolerance: for products with natural weight variation (such as fresh produce), set a tolerance percentage. An order for a 500g packet with a 10% tolerance allows fulfillment anywhere between 450g and 550g.
Shared Pool Inventory
Shared pool lets multiple product variants draw from one common stock total instead of each tracking their own stock independently. This is designed for commodity or bulk products sold in different pack sizes that all come from the same supply.
Example
A rice supplier stocks 100 kg total. They sell it as a 1 kg bag, a 5 kg bag, and a 10 kg bag — three separate products. With shared pool, all three draw from the same 100 kg pool. Selling one 5 kg bag reduces the pool to 95 kg, automatically affecting availability across all three sizes.
- Where to configure: the shared pool is set at the product template level, not on individual variants. All variants linked to the same template share its stock pool.
- Inventory scope: set the template to Shared Pool rather than Per Variant. Per-variant (the default) keeps each product's stock independent.
- Inventory unit: the base unit the pool is tracked in (e.g., kg, litre). This is the template's unit, not the sale unit of individual variants.
- UoM factor per variant: set the UoM factor on each variant to reflect how much of the pool one sale deducts. A 5 kg bag variant linked to a kg-based pool has a UoM factor of 5.
- Stock is managed at the pool level. Updating the stock count on any variant in the group updates the shared total.
When to Use Each Feature
| Feature | Use when |
|---|---|
| Minimum Order Quantity | Products that cannot be sold in quantities below a threshold — wholesale, bulk commodities, minimum batch orders. |
| Tiered / Slab Pricing | Volume discounts — the more a customer buys, the lower the unit price. |
| Unit of Measure | Weight or volume products — fresh produce, liquids, grains sold in fractional amounts. |
| Shared Pool Inventory | The same physical stock is sold in multiple pack sizes. Avoids overselling across sizes. |
